Valentino Merante of Yonkers, NY passed away October 5, 2019 with family by his side.

Valentino was born August 18, 1932 in Calabria, Italy to Angela and Joseph Merante.  He is survived by eight children:  Mary Altmayer (Robert), Angela Ascolillo ( Ronald), Rosemarie Bizzarro (Mario), Mary Louise Ascolillo, Gerard (Debbie), Palma Piccillo (Salvatore), Valentino II (Jaqueline), Robert, and sister Maria.  Valentino is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.  He was predeceased by sons:  Joseph and Francis, daughter Theresa and brothers Dominick and Ralph.

Valentino was an insurance salesman until his retirement.  He was a member of the Third Order of Saint Francis. He was a Certified License Underwriter, an achievement of which he was very proud of.  He earned his Masters of Religious Studies late in life telling everyone you can always do what you want if you just put your mind to it.

Valentino looked forward to his Sunday outings with his daughters Rosemarie and Angela.  He especially enjoyed all the goodies his granddaughter Valerie would bring him and the many homemade meals  she prepared for him.

He will be missed by family members and many friends.

A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, October 11, 2019,at St. Mary’s Church, South Broadway, Yonkers, at 10:00AM.
